Agreement in wage dispute: Higher surcharges for aviation security personnel

The wage dispute in the aviation security industry has been settled. Employees receive higher premiums for Sunday, public holiday and night work. More salary was not an issue in the negotiations, which were accompanied by warning strikes.

The risk of new strikes at German airports has decreased this year. Following the collective bargaining agreement in the public sector, a collective bargaining agreement has now also been reached for the approximately 25,000 employees at aviation security checks. This concerns the controversial allowances.

No agreement at overtime premiums

According to the trade union ver.di and the employers’ association BDLS, a night surcharge on Sundays and public holidays will be granted in parallel and in addition to the Sunday and public holiday surcharge from June 1st. In addition, the time window for night work is to be extended and the surcharge is to increase in two steps. According to the agreement, executives should receive allowances. “The conclusion poses great challenges for employers and will not be easy to implement economically,” explained the BDLS.

According to ver.di, it was possible to enforce most of the demands. However, Ver.di negotiator Wolfgang Pieper regretted that no agreement had been reached on higher supplements for overtime. In view of the upcoming wave of travel, that would have been the right signal to attract urgently needed specialists, he said, according to a statement.

Salary increases were not an issue in the negotiations, which were accompanied by several warning strikes this spring. According to both sides, the corresponding contract expires at the end of the year, so that new negotiations will then be started. Then ver.di wants to demand higher overtime premiums again.
