The collective bargaining dispute over the payment of doctors at municipal clinics in Germany has been settled. Retrospectively, salaries will increase by 3.35 percent. Further increases are to be negotiated as early as January 2023.
In the collective bargaining for around 60,000 doctors at municipal clinics in Germany, there is an agreement: Salaries are to increase by 3.35 percent retroactively to October 1, 2021, as the Marburger Bund trade union and the association of municipal employers’ associations announced in the evening. The tariff increase runs until the end of this year. According to the Marburg Federation, salaries are to be negotiated again as early as January 1, 2023 in view of the inflation rates. Among other things, an additional day of vacation per year and limitations on on-call services were also agreed.
“Total package of substantial improvements”
The Marburger Bund spoke of a “complete package of substantial improvements” that set clear limits to stress outside of normal working hours and guaranteed reliable rest periods. The union had entered the negotiations with a demand for 5.5 percent more money. The employer side stated that in view of high inflation and the burdens caused by the corona pandemic, a sustainable solution for all parties had been reached.
60,000 doctors affected
The collective bargaining dispute had already begun in October last year. It was about the salaries and working conditions of around 60,000 doctors at the municipal hospitals. The Marburger Bund had organized nationwide warning strikes in March.
