According to the Vereinigung Cockpit trade union, the wage conflict at Lufthansa has been settled. With that, the two-day strike by the pilots, which was supposed to start on Wednesday, is probably off the table.
The strike at Lufthansa announced for Wednesday and Thursday has probably been averted. As the union Vereinigung Cockpit announced, it was able to reach an agreement with representatives of the airline in the wage dispute.
The union had previously called on pilots to stop working for two days from Wednesday. This would have affected the departures of Lufthansa passenger planes from Germany. The freight subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo should also take part in the strike on Wednesday.
Hundreds of flights canceled in previous strike
Last Friday, Lufthansa had to cancel almost the entire program of its core airline as a result of a one-day strike. Around 800 flights and around 130,000 passengers were affected by the cancellations. According to the company, it suffered economic damage of 32 million euros.
In the negotiations, Cockpit had previously demanded a “flat rate” inflation adjustment of 8.2 percent for the employees concerned. In the current year, salaries should rise by 5.5 percent. There should also be a new salary scale and more money for sick days, holidays and training. The extent to which Lufthansa has now agreed to these demands is still open.
