The former BVB professional and national team player Nico Schulz was accused of having mistreated his girlfriend on several occasions. The proceedings have now been discontinued against a monetary requirement.

The Dortmund district court heard the assault case against the former national soccer player on Wednesday Nico Schulz temporarily hired. The 30-year-old was accused of physically abusing his then-partner in three cases in 2020. Schulz’s defense attorney explained at the beginning of the trial that his client had certainly engaged in misconduct in the relationship. However, the attacks described in the indictment did not take place in this form. The now 36-year-old witness refused to testify in court. Her lawyer pointed out that the witness could make herself liable to prosecution if she repeated the allegations in this form.

Donations to social institutions

If Schulz pays a total of 150,000 euros to five different charitable institutions in the next three months, the proceedings will be finally stopped. 30,000 euros each will go to the German Cancer Aid, the associations “Women Help Women” and “Kinderlachen” as well as the White Ring and a children’s hospice service. Before the trial, Schulz had also paid his ex-partner an undisclosed amount of damages.
