In the 1990s, Hawaiian musician Israel “IZ” became Kamakawiwo’ole with a medley from “What a Wonderful World” and “Somewhere over the Rainbow” where he accompanied himself on the ukulele. This is only indirectly related to the new volume of stories by Ferdinand von Schirach, but at least insofar as one encounters a very similar, directionless, yearning mood there and one therefore has this ukulele constantly in one’s ear while reading the stories.
