When millions of people spend a lot of money these days at the Munich Oktoberfest in a party mood, the state also makes a profit, and not just through taxes. Hofbräu München is one of the six large Munich breweries whose beer may be served exclusively at the Wiesn. And when business at Hofbräu is going well, that’s also good for the state coffers. The world-famous brewery, which was founded in Munich more than 400 years ago, was first owned by the dukes and later by the royal family. As part of the state administration, it is now assigned directly to the Bavarian Minister of Finance.
