After “thorough analysis”, swimming again authorized at Lake Hostens

“After in-depth analysis of new samples this week, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional health agency authorizes the department to reopen swimming”, explains in a press release the department of Gironde, owner of the Hostens leisure area. Swimming is possible from tomorrow, Saturday September 9, knowing that this weekend is the last of the season during which swimming is supervised.

Swimming remains prohibited for dogs

Swimming had been prohibited since September 1 after the first partial results which indicated “the presence of toxigenic cyanobacteria, raising fears of the presence in the future results of dangerous toxins”, then indicated the community. The closure measure, presented as a preventive measure, was lifted upon receipt of additional analyses.

“The department of Gironde, however, wishes to recall that swimming remains prohibited for dogs, particularly vulnerable by their behavior in the face of certain bacteria”, specifies the press release. A dog died suddenly while bathing in the waters of the lake on August 17. And, a second dog found himself suddenly ill after bathing on August 23, but was saved after being rushed to a veterinarian.

Agents from the Department will be on site this weekend to inform the public.
