After the fatal merry-go-round accident, the showmen indicted for manslaughter

The investigation continues after the death of a teenager thrown from a merry-go-round on October 9 in Saintes, Charente-Maritime. The operators of a carousel have been indicted for manslaughter, the prosecution announced on Tuesday.

A judicial investigation has been opened for “manslaughter by clumsiness, recklessness, inattention, negligence or deliberate breach of an obligation of security or prudence imposed by law or regulation”, detailed the public prosecutor of Saintes, Benjamin Alla , in a press release.

“Deliberate breach of a security obligation”

The fairground couple, aged 45 and 50 and living in the south of the department, had been placed in police custody on Monday. They were placed under judicial control with in particular “prohibition to exercise a professional activity in connection with the offense”, specified the magistrate.

The accident occurred on Sunday October 9 in the middle of the afternoon. The boy had been ejected from a caterpillar-like attraction as it picked up speed.

Transported in serious condition to the University Hospital of Poitiers, the teenager died “as a direct result of his injuries”, said Benjamin Alla the day after the tragedy.
