A 32-year-old man, arrested on Monday, is in police custody for “robbery with violence resulting in death” after the discovery, on Saturday morning, of the bodies of two pensioners, aged 76 and 84, at their home in Grasse ( Alpes-Maritimes).

“The first findings revealed that the couple bore traces of blows on the upper part of the body”, indicates the prosecutor of the Republic of Grasse, this Tuesday, in a press release. “Their house was also completely searched and their vehicle stolen,” he said.

Eighteen convictions

The suspect, arrested Monday afternoon in Le Cannet, near Cannes, was driving the stolen car. “Very unfavorably known to the police and justice services”, his criminal record mentioning eighteen convictions, the latter has not yet recognized the facts. Faced with the investigators, he gave “incoherent explanations requiring numerous checks”, said the prosecution.

Autopsies of the victims must be carried out in the coming days and a psychiatric expertise of the thirties is scheduled for the day, this Tuesday. His indictment could be pronounced on Wednesday at the end of his police custody. Theft, when preceded, accompanied or followed either by violence resulting in death, is punishable by life imprisonment and a fine of 150,000 euros.
