After the death of his companion killed by the police, the driver remains silent

He remained silent. Injured during the intervention of the police which cost the life of his companion on September 7 in Rennes, the driver of the car was placed in police custody. Faced with the police, the 26-year-old man did not wish to speak, preferring to remain silent, said the public prosecutor Philippe Astruc. A few hours earlier, the respondent had seen his girlfriend die. Aged 22, the young woman from Rouen (Seine-Maritime) who accompanied her in the Peugeot 208 was shot by an officer of the Nantes BRI. According to the first statements of the policeman, the bullet would have ricocheted after having pierced the arm of the driver. The young woman died an hour later despite the intervention of the emergency services.

According to the first results of the autopsy, the bullet would have been found in the body of the victim, after having “perforated the right ventricle, the diaphragm, the liver and the right lung”, according to the prosecutor.

A bag of 111 grams of cocaine

The driver of the car saw the same bullet pass through his right arm, causing an ITT of 15 days. Already known for drug trafficking, the driver had been followed by the police for several weeks. During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, the investigators of the judicial police decided to arrest him, while the latter tried to leave the bypass at the height of the door of Lorient.

On the spot, the investigators discovered 111 grams of cocaine in a bag. A policeman attests to having seen the drugs being thrown from the window of the vehicle just before he tried to stop his driver, asking him to get out of the vehicle, gun in hand. According to the police, the 26-year-old man would then have restarted “at high speed” before “going towards the policeman who was to shoot”. Wounded, the driver finally came to fit into the two unmarked police vehicles positioned to obstruct the passage.

The IGPN has been entered

Three procedures were opened following this police operation. The first concerns the death of the young woman and targets the policeman who fired the single shot. Open for “willful violence resulting in death” and “violence with a weapon”, it will be led by the IGPN. The other two relate to the driver of the car. One is charged with drug trafficking, the other with “attempted voluntary homicide on a person holding public authority”.
