In the Afghan capital Kabul, the radical Islamic Taliban fighters of the terrorist militia Islamic State attacked. Three of them died. Local residents report hours of fighting.

A few hours after an attack on a memorial service in the Afghan capital Kabul, units of the militant Islamist Taliban attacked fighters of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia.

Taliban member Muhammad Jalal wrote on Twitter that terrorists in a so-called sleeper cell of IS Khorasan – as IS in Afghanistan and Pakistan are called – were caught in a house in Kabul. Three IS terrorists have been “neutralized” by their own explosive belts.

Local residents report fighting

Two residents said they heard the sound of heavy fighting for hours. “We can still hear it, but we don’t know what’s going on.” A number of houses were damaged by the fighting. Several buildings would be on fire, such as gasoline and gas stores.

A bomb attack had previously been carried out in Kabul near the memorial service for the mother of a high-ranking Taliban official. Taliban Interior Ministry spokesman Kari Said Chosti said several civilians were killed in the explosion near the gate of the famous Eidgah mosque. Other reports said there were at least twelve dead and more than 32 injured.

It is said that several leading members of the Islamists took part in the funeral service. It was the first bomb explosion in Kabul that was apparently aimed at a high-ranking Taliban event. Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attack.

IS active in more and more regions

Since the Taliban came to power in mid-August, IS has claimed a number of attacks on the Taliban. IS fighters attacked members of the Taliban in northern Parwan province on Friday. According to observers, it appears that IS is becoming active in more and more areas.

ISIS appeared openly in Afghanistan at the beginning of 2015. He wants to establish a “province” called IS-Khorasan there and on Pakistani territory and has repeatedly carried out attacks, primarily on Shiite Muslims and their institutions.
