He stood in front of the camera for well-known directors such as Jean-Pierre Jeunet and won a César for best actor in 2017. Now Gaspard Ulliel has died after an accident.

French actor Gaspard Ulliel is dead. He died at the age of 37 after a skiing accident, French news agency AFP reported on Wednesday, citing his management and family.

Consistent media reports said the accident happened on Tuesday afternoon in Savoy. Ulliel was seriously injured in a hospital in Grenoble in the south-east of the country. French Prime Minister Jean Castex wrote on Twitter that Ulliel and the cinema loved each other beyond measure. His performances will be seen with a heavy heart from now on.

Ulliel became known, among other things, with the film “Mathilde – a great love” by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. In 2005, he received a César for Best Young Actor for his role in the film. He also received international attention as a young Hannibal Lecter in Peter Webber’s “Hannibal Rising” in 2007.

Ulliel’s portrayal of the young Yves Saint Laurent in Bertrand Bonello’s «Saint Laurent» also won an award, for which he received the Prix Lumières for best actor. Most recently, he was honored as the leading actor in “Einfach das Ende der Welt” by French Canadian Xavier Dolans in 2017 with the César as best actor. Ulliel was born on November 25, 1984 near Paris.
