After-school teachers on strike for better pay

A strike notice was filed in extracurriculars in Paris for the entire month of October, during interclass time, by Unsa, the majority union in charge of school affairs in the city. It is established over a period of two hours during the children’s lunch break. “Many REVs (for city education managers) and facilitators will strike, children attending the schools concerned will not have a canteen for an unlimited period,” warns Unsa in a text dated October 1.

Unsa is asking for an increase in bonuses for facilitators, as well as “respect for supervision rates”, i.e. to return to a supervision rate of one adult for eight children in nursery school and one for 12 in elementary school. . “To monitor children you need human resources and that is why we must revise the supervision rates downwards in order to avoid a new tragedy,” writes Unsa, with particular reference to drowning in the 19th.

Claims deemed “legitimate”

Contacted by 20 minutes, the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of Education, Patrick Bloche, judges that these demands are “legitimate” and claims to have spoken on this subject with the deputy for human resources, Antoine Guillou, to obtain “ an increase in the rate of remuneration for vacations and certain bonuses.” Asked about the amount he hopes to obtain, Patrick Bloche says he “wants a double-digit increase”, in any case “significant compared to the inflation rate”.

The Deputy for Education also recalls that the town hall has put in place a deprecariousness plan to get out of precariousness nearly 1,600 city agents, who must be tenured or obtain more stable contracts. “The interclass is provided by part-time agents, who are our most precarious agents with low salaries. We have been paying attention to this for some time,” comments the deputy.

The strike did not have a very strong response, however, according to Patrick Bloche, who affirms that only around twenty schools are affected, out of 631, mainly in the 9th and 14th arrondissements.
