Gold again: Prime Minister Sánchez honors Spain’s world champions in Madrid. Before that, the team celebrated wildly with the fans.
After returning home and a long Party night, the Spanish soccer world champions were received by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
At the honoring ceremony in front of the Palacio de la Moncloa government seat in Madrid, the socialist politician described the players around the best World Cup player Aitana Bonmatí (25) as role models, especially for the young girls in the country and said: “Spain is proud of you . This will be the century of women and real equality.” There is “still a lot to do” in relation to women’s rights. “But we’re on the right track,” stressed Sanchez.
The world champions would all be awarded the gold medal for merit in sport, the head of government announced. A reception at the Spanish royal family in Madrid is only planned for September 19, according to the media, citing spokesman for King Felipe VI. reported.
After landing in Madrid, world footballer Alexia Putellas (29), young star Salma Paralluelo (19) & Co. drove in an open-topped bus to the Esplanade Puente del Rey in the west of the capital late Monday evening. There they celebrated the World Cup triumph in Australia with many thousands of people with lots of music and dancing. “This world title is yours,” defender Ivana Andrés shouted at the cheering fans. In the final in Sydney, the Spanish team defeated England 1-0.
