During the attack on the Russian landing ship “Novocherkassk”, a training ship also sank – satellite images are said to show this.

Feodosiya – A drone attack from Ukraine hit the Russian warship Novocherkassk in the port city of Feodosiya in Crimea on Tuesday night. On Telegram, the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, even spoke of the sinking of the landing ship. The Kremlin confirmed the attack, but only said it caused damage. It would not be the first ship in the Ukraine War that Ukraine sank.

Drone attack: Satellite images are said to show another damaged ship

In addition to the damage suffered by the large landing ship, another was also reported to have been damaged – and partially sunk. According to the US-funded broadcaster, this is the old training ship UTS-150 Radio Liberty in Russia. Satellite images support the statement of the representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Natalia Humeniuk, who reported on the sunken training ship shortly after the attack.

According to the report, satellite images taken by Maxar Technologies show a partially submerged smaller ship not far from the apparent wreckage of the Novocherkassk. The images were taken on Tuesday (December 26) at 11:25 a.m. local time.

Reaction to attack: Russia is said to have withdrawn more ships from the port

Russia is said to have later responded to the drone attack with measures: two Russian ships are said to have quickly left the harbor bay. It was reported that it was not possible to identify the ships due to poor visibility Radio Liberty. It could possibly have been a warship and a military boat – judging by its size.

Moscow confirmed the attack on Novocherkassk, but there was no information about the extent of the damage to the ship. The Kremlin has not yet commented on the reports of the partially sunk training ship. According to authorities, one person died and two others were injured.

A complete sinking of the “Novocherkassk” would be a further humiliation for Moscow – the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the “Moskva”, was destroyed in 2022. (hk)
