After just a few hours: Musk stops the second Twitter hook again

The new tick on Twitter has been reinstated for the time being. Owner Musk decided against the gray verification hook for subscription customers on the day of the launch. He did not give the reason for this.

Only a few hours after its introduction, the new Twitter owner Elon Musk had the second verification hook removed again. Some users of the short message service noticed that the new, gray symbol first appeared and then disappeared again.

US YouTuber Marques Brownlee tweeted about the disappearance of the hook, which Musk commented with “I just killed it” – he deleted it. He did not give the exact reason for the removal. A manager of the service explained on Twitter that they only wanted to focus on government and commercial institutions with the hook.

Briefly gray instead of blue

Previously, verified accounts from companies or celebrities were marked with a white tick on a blue background. However, Musk wanted to leave this to his subscribers. Previously verified users had therefore – at least for a short time – received a gray tick on a white background, supplemented with the word “Official”. Now the original blue tick has been added to their accounts again.

The Twitter subscription introduced by Musk should offer access to advantages such as more visibility of the tweets or less advertising. According to the service’s website, “Twitter Blue” currently costs $4.99. However, Musk wants to raise the price to eight dollars, as he tweeted in early November. So far, however, the subscription has only been introduced in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. After Musk took over Twitter, he initially announced that he wanted to reorganize account verification.

The back-and-forth on Twitter could continue, however, as Musk also wrote: “Please note that Twitter will do a lot of stupid things in the coming months. We keep what works and change what doesn’t work.”
