Lebanese Hezbollah called for observing a “day of anger against the enemy” this Wednesday to condemn a deadly shooting against a hospital in the Gaza Strip, a “massacre” of which it accuses Israel.
Hezbollah’s call came as hundreds of protesters gathered outside the US embassy in Awkar, a northern suburb of the capital Beirut, where they chanted “death to America” and “death to to Israel.” Lebanese security forces fired tear gas to disperse protesters who were throwing stones at the embassy, many of them covering their faces with Palestinian keffiyehs, according to these correspondents. Hundreds of people also gathered in front of the French embassy in Beirut, waving Palestinian flags and also throwing stones at the embassy’s main entrance.
Angry protests also took place in Palestinian refugee camps in the southern Lebanese cities of Sidon and Tyre.
