Retirement ? Very little for him. At almost 81 years old, despite heart problems that could have cost him his life and earned him the nickname “Terminator” in the hospital, Michel Drucker does not plan to rest. The star host is preparing to begin his 59th season on television on August 27.
“When my surgeon (…) advised me to slow down, I replied: You’re kidding: If you’re lucky enough to have a passion as a job, you should never stop. To be 80 years old today is not old, ”explained the octogenarian, in an interview granted to TVMagazine.
Drucker was afraid of being kicked off the air
Three years after a first major heart operation, he was hospitalized for tests in early February, which led to the interruption of his show. While he was originally supposed to make his return in April, he had another operation at the end of March. “This time, I started by telling myself that it was cooked”, admits the presenter of the weekly program “Vivement dimanche”, broadcast on Sunday on France 3 at midday.
He confesses to having had “the anguish” of being ousted from the antenna. “The governance of France Télévisions, which never let me go, asked me to stop being paranoid,” he says.
