After help for flood victims: A heart for Zorneding – Ebersberg

The municipality of Zorneding has now received a big thank you in the truest sense of the word: a cobblestone with a red heart attached to it arrived in the mail in the town hall these days. The sender of this sculpture is the Bad Münstereifel Citizens’ Foundation, which is saying thank you for the great support during the flood disaster in July last year. In order to help those affected in the Eifel, the “Zorneding.Hilft” initiative had collected a total of around 25,900 euros. “Your generous donation was also an expression of the bond with us here on site. We cannot thank you enough for that,” says a letter from the community foundation to the Zorneding town hall.

The cobblestone itself has a special meaning, as the letter from Bad Münstereifel also states: “This cobblestone was carried away from its original place by the water on the night of the flood in July 2021. It is a small witness to the shocking event, but has survived the artists Ela Rubenach and Juliane Bungart get a lively role: he gets to hold the heart that connects us all.”

The mayor thanks the helpers and donors

Zorneding’s mayor Piet Mayr (CSU) now presented the floodstone to the initiators and coordinators of the “Zorneding.Hilft” campaign, Meike and Stefan Winsel. The couple accepted it on behalf of the many Zornedinger helpers and donors who were involved in the campaign: “This is wonderful recognition of the many hours of work by all the helpers. In addition, the floodstone with the heart is a real one-off and together with the Card is simply a very nice idea and reminder,” says the Winsel family.

Piet Mayr sees the small sculpture as a great confirmation of the voluntary commitment and the many days and hours that the “Zorneding.Hilft” initiative has invested in favor of the victims: “We see each other again and again and especially in the current situation , in which we realize how important such private relief efforts are in overcoming catastrophes of this magnitude.” The recognition and thanks from the Bad Münstereifel Citizens’ Foundation will continue to encourage people in the community to show their solidarity and support those in need.

Zorneding delivered almost 40 tons of relief supplies

In the case of the flood disaster, this support has already worked very well. At that time, the Zornedinger initiative collected donations in money and goods with a total value of around 72,000 euros. In many hours of voluntary work, six transports with a total of ten vehicles were organized. Donations in kind with a total weight of almost 40 tons and a value of around 40,000 euros were transported to the affected area. The other 25,900 euros in donations that were received in the donations account set up by the municipality of Zorneding were transferred directly to the Bad Münstereifel Citizens’ Foundation.
