After finding near Tutzing – griffon vulture died of lead poisoning – Starnberg

The griffon vulture found near Tutzing in mid-January was shot. He died as a result of lead poisoning. This is the result of an investigation by the State Office for Food Safety and Health. Accordingly, a pinhead-sized, lead-containing projectile was found in the tissue of the bird of prey, said the State Association for Bird Protection (LBV) on Friday. The lead was continuously released into the blood. Due to the poisoning, the griffon vulture, which is very rare in the local area, was ultimately no longer able to go in search of food – it died of exhaustion. Because the killing of a strictly protected bird of prey like this is a criminal offence, the LBV is now filing a criminal complaint. The Bavarian Hunting Association joined the lawsuit. An analysis of the projectile could reveal where and when the vulture was shot at.
