Cristiano Ronaldo received a special award at the FIFA Gala on Monday. Now Brazil legend Pele congratulates him with an emotional message.

Cristiano Ronaldo has received an emotional message from Brazilian legend Pele after being honored with the FIFA special award for most international goals in history.

“Cristiano, congratulations for that special honor by FIFA. I look forward to seeing you in person and hugging you,” Pele said in a video message on Instagram.

Cristiano Ronaldo responds to Pele’s message: ‘Impossible not to get emotional’

The Portuguese’s reply was not long in coming. “When Pele speaks, the world listens. It’s impossible not to get emotional when such an incredible person expresses their respect and admiration for me. A hero for all ages, a myth for all generations and a legend true of sport,” wrote Ronaldo.

The Manchester United superstar received the award at Monday’s The Best gala for his record breaking in a Portugal national team shirt last September.

Ronaldo is not yet thinking about quitting: CR7 wants to continue playing “four or five years”.

That was when he scored his 110th goal, overtaking Iran’s Ali Daei for all-time international goals. Ronaldo now has 115 goals. “It’s a dream. I also have to thank my teammates over the past 20 years,” said the 36-year-old Ronaldo at the gala, announcing that he wanted to play “four or five more years”.

Earlier in 2021, Ronaldo broke Pele’s “eternal” goal record for most goals throughout his career. “As he so wisely said, we are all part of the same team which is team football. Thank you Pele. I hope we can see each other soon so we can laugh together and talk about this game that we both love so much love,” wrote Ronaldo.
