At their concert on Friday, a fan collapsed and later died in hospital. Megastar Taylor Swift is now postponing another appearance in Rio de Janeiro due to extreme heat.
After the death of a fan at a concert Taylor Swift in Rio de Janeiro, the US singer has postponed another appearance in the Brazilian metropolis due to the extreme heat.
“We have made the decision to postpone today’s performance due to the extreme temperatures in Rio,” the musician wrote on Instagram. “The safety and well-being of my fans, my colleagues and team members always come first.”
Brazil is currently suffering from a heat wave. The temperature was 42.5 degrees in Rio on Saturday afternoon. A 23-year-old fan collapsed at Taylor Swift’s concert on Friday at the Nilton Santos Stadium, the news portal G1 reported. The young woman was taken to a hospital and died. According to the city health department, the cause of death is still under investigation. Fans had previously complained that they were prevented from bringing water bottles into the stadium despite the high temperatures.
Swift was shocked by her fan’s death. “I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it breaks my heart to say we lost a fan before my show tonight,” the musician wrote on Instagram. “I can’t express how shocked I am about this.”
