The series “Dahmer” captivates many viewers on Netflix. Now it is supposed to become a “Monster” series – although there has also been harsh criticism of the production.

With the series “Dahmer – Monster” Netflix has had a great success – the interest in the story of the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who was caught in 1991, was gigantic. So big that the streaming provider wants to connect to it. Netflix has announced that it will make a “Monster” series out of it.

Two more series will feature “stories about other monstrous figures that have influenced society,” Netflix announced. In both cases, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, who also came up with the idea for “Dahmer”, will be responsible. It is not yet known who the upcoming True Crime formats will be about.

“Dahmer” one of the most successful Netflix series ever

There is already speculation on social networks that a series could be about John Wayne Gacy. The serial killer murdered 33 boys and young men as a “killer clown” in the seventies and also appeared in the series “Dahmer”.

“Dahmer” is one of the most successful Netflix series ever. It was streamed for a total of 824.2 million hours in the first 28 days of its release, Netflix said. This puts “Dahmer” in third place in this evaluation, only “Squid Game” and the fourth season of “Stranger Things” were more successful in the first month after publication.

While fans of the series should be happy about the announcement, there has also been a lot of criticism. The “Dahmer” series had already caused controversy. Critics accused Netflix of heroizing a serial killer and cannibal.

Relatives of the victims felt “retraumatized” by the depiction and claimed that the streaming provider had not contacted them in advance. Lionel Dahmer, Jeffrey Dahmer’s father, also said he was unaware of the series. He’s considering suing Netflix over it.
