After a software glitch: trains in the Netherlands are at a standstill

Status: 03.04.2022 2:31 p.m

A software glitch has largely paralyzed train services in the Netherlands. According to the railway operator, it is currently not foreseeable when the problem can be solved. There is no evidence of a hacker attack.

Train traffic on the national railway network in the Netherlands has come to a standstill due to a technical problem. Rail operator NS said trains would be halted until 5pm while efforts were made to fix the problem.

Regional trains still operate

“We are working hard to fix the problem, but unfortunately it is not yet possible to say how long this situation will last,” the NS website said.

The regional trains operated by other operators continued to operate. Erik Kroeze, a Nazi spokesman, said the problem was in a planning software system. There is no evidence that it was caused by a cyber attack.
