After a shunting accident: Wolfsburg station partially closed | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

During a shunting run early in the morning at Wolfsburg train station, a train belonging to the private railway company Enno derailed. People weren’t hurt. The accident has consequences for rail traffic.

The train driver of the Enno train overlooked a signal around 5 a.m. and got onto a so-called emergency track, which ends after a few meters, said the federal police. The first three wagons jumped off the rails and came to a stop on the gravel. They rammed a power pole and tore down an overhead line.

Federal police assume damage worth millions

People were not injured in the accident. The train driver, however, suffered a shock. According to an Enno spokesman, the train should be ready for the first trip of the day. With the exception of the train driver, no other people were on board. The train as well as the tracks and overhead lines were severely damaged by the accident. The federal police assume a loss of millions. A spokesman said it was being determined because of dangerous interference in rail traffic. The salvage work will probably continue into the evening hours, said the spokesman.

IC and ICE do not stop in Wolfsburg for the time being

As a result of the accident, the train traffic that passes through Wolfsburg Central Station is severely restricted. The station was partially closed to train traffic. In long-distance traffic, individual tracks have been released for passage on the important route between Hanover and Berlin, as the railway announced via Twitter. The trains cannot stop in Wolfsburg at the moment. “Currently all long-distance platforms are blocked,” said the rail spokesman. The majority of the trains can initially only bypass Wolfsburg.

Replacement bus services in regional traffic and cancellations

Freight traffic and regional traffic are also affected: The Enno trains therefore temporarily start and end in the adjacent Fallersleben station. Buses are used on the remaining route to Wolfsburg train station. Because nine more Enno trains cannot be used due to the station closure, individual journeys by the provider would also have to be omitted, the company said. These are mainly so-called amplifier trips.

Enno: Restrictions all day

“The security and clean-up work in Wolfsburg will probably last the whole day,” said Enno. According to information from Deutsche Bahn, special vehicles were requested. These had been expected at lunchtime at the scene of the accident, it said.
