At least now that the CIA has tracked down and killed the jihadist al-Zawahiri, it’s clear: al-Qaeda is back in the Hindu Kush. The government in Kabul will do nothing about it. The two groups have a lot in common.

The Taliban have a reputation problem. That was clear to everyone, probably also the so-called government of the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” itself and perhaps even the smarter among their warriors. Disregard for women’s rights, violence against opponents of the regime and employees of the former government, the United Nations have just accused the “Islamic Emirate” of this and much more.
