For formal reasons, the state election committee did not allow the two competing AfD lists to take part in the state elections in Bremen on May 14.

This means that the AfD in Bremen is not allowed to compete in the state elections. First, the committee decided that the lists would not be allowed in the city of Bremen. It was then also decided for the separate electoral area of Bremerhaven that the AfD was not allowed to compete. The committee is thus correcting a decision by the Bremerhaven electoral committee, which initially approved the list. The reason for the exclusion is that the election proposal was not signed by a legitimate AfD state executive. The AfD list for the election of the city council is not controversial.

AfD wants to prepare election examination complaint

The decision of the state electoral committee is the last one before the election. According to the electoral office, the AfD can only call the election examination court and then the state court after the election. The federal executive board of the AfD has already announced that it will prepare an election review complaint. If such a complaint is filed, the validity of the election will be checked.

The AfD was excluded from the elections in the Bremen city area last week because the party had submitted two competing election lists. According to the electoral regulations, this is not possible. The head of the electoral district for the city of Bremen argued that the committee cannot check which of the two lists is the legitimate election proposal. The two AfD camps did not want to put up with this, so the state election committee had to decide.
