The AfD parliamentary group has grown significantly after gaining 14.6 percent of votes on Sunday: it will have 32 instead of 17 MPs in the future, including 18 new faces. The traditional meeting room in the state parliament, in which the new parliamentary group is expected to meet for the first time next week, is almost too small for it, “could be cozy,” we hear. And political? The AfD faction is not only significantly larger, but probably also significantly more radical. The ongoing dispute between the ethnic network in the party, which is close to the formally dissolved “wing”, and more moderate forces has occupied the old faction for five years. A new parliamentary group leader is likely to be elected next week. According to analyzes of the South German newspaper Only ten of the 32 MPs are considered to be decidedly critical of the “wing”. However, many newcomers have made it into parliament who are said to have a strict right-wing line. So things could get a lot less cozy there.
