AfD: Daniel Halemba suspends AfD membership rights – Bavaria

The Bavarian AfD member of the state parliament Daniel Halemba is resigning from all party positions with immediate effect. Halemba said he was also suspending his membership rights in the party. Halemba will probably remain a member of the parliamentary group in the state parliament.

The Bavarian AfD board had previously postponed the initiation of party expulsion proceedings against the controversial member of the state parliament and only set the initial course for it. On Tuesday, the AfD federal executive board called on the Bavarian organization to take this measure.

The 22-year-old is in the focus of the Würzburg public prosecutor’s office because of alleged incitement to hatred and the use of unconstitutional symbols; it concerns incidents surrounding the fraternity house of his Prague fraternity Teutonia zu Würzburg. The investigation against Halemba and five other people is still ongoing. In addition, there are said to have been irregularities surrounding constellation meetings in Lower Franconia during his candidacy for state parliament, in his favor.

The AfD federal executive committee speaks of “identified violations of our party’s rules through participation in two bogus residence reports.” Regarding the mandate given to the Bavarian state executive board, federal chairwoman Alice Weidel said in a statement on Tuesday: For the federal executive board it was “absolutely clear that Mr. Halemba cannot remain a member of the AfD.”
