Advent music on the balcony in Neuried – District of Munich

Isn’t that something? Isn’t there Christmas music in the air? Anyone who listens in Neuried’s streets on Advent Sundays at 6 p.m. could be right. The Neuried Music School has called on its members to stand on the balcony on Sundays at 6 p.m., open the window, step outside the front door or into the garden, take out the instruments and play Christmas carols. Everyone is invited to take part. Music should resound through the whole place and spread the Christmas spirit, this is how the music school director Christoph Peters introduces himself.

The music students have been practicing their Christmas carols for weeks, especially the beginners starting very early so that the notes are right for the musical prelude in front of an audience. Now all concerts have to be canceled again due to the pandemic. But the music students did not practice in vain, now it should echo from the houses for a quarter of an hour. Christoph Peters also participates. In a trio with Natascha Juchert and Andreas Porsch, both from the music school board, he is learning to play the trombone and serenaded them on Gautinger Straße 1 on the second day of Advent. Two more Sundays follow.

In the second year of the pandemic, the music school is already well versed in terms of digital musical performance. On the music school’s homepage www.musikschule-neuried.de, visitors can click on a little door on the musical advent calendar every day and receive an atmospheric greeting – and one or two surprises are presented. Mayor Harald Zipfel (SPD) gave a performance on St. Nicholas Day. “Every year again” he played the saxophone with all his passion. The music students then join their respective musical ensembles to a polyphonic canon “Good luck and lots of blessings on all your paths”.

Advent invites you to feel the full power of music. “Music conveys feelings in a special way, which is particularly noticeable at Christmas,” says Peters. In addition to Christmas classics such as “Silent Night”, which can be heard around the world during the Christmas season, there are also more special songs. “A ship is coming loaded” is one of them. The Advent chorale is over 500 years old, and the Christian text is as relevant today as it was centuries ago. “The sail is love …” Peters quotes from the second stanza with indulgence. “I like the melody, it’s my favorite song.”

The steady time is a bland time this year. With this series, the SZ tries to bring at least a little bit of light into Advent every day.
