Hollywood splendor at the Berlinale: Comedian Adam Sandler was a guest on Wednesday with his new film “Spaceman”.

A whole host of top-class Hollywood stars also provided glamor in Berlin on Wednesday evening: comedy legend Adam Sandler (57) came to the German capital to present his new Netflix film “Spaceman: A Short History of Bohemian Space Travel” as a world premiere in the Berlinale Special series out of competition. Sandler’s co-stars Carey Mulligan (38), Paul Dano (39) and Kunal Nayyar (42) also arrived and provided Hollywood flair on the red carpet in front of the Berlinale Palast.

Adam Sandler is drifting through space, depressed

In the sci-fi comedy, which will be released worldwide on the streaming service Netflix on March 1, Sandler plays the Czech astronaut Jakub, who is on a solo mission to Venus. But alone in the vastness of space, the astronaut begins to doubt his relationship with his pregnant wife Lenka (Mulligan). Then a mysterious, extraterrestrial entity (speaker in the original: Paul Dano) makes contact with him.

Filming the space film was no easy task for Hollywood star Sandler. The 57-year-old had to hang from strings to simulate the weightlessness of space. “The cables were hard because my body isn’t very flexible, so that hurt me, but as a team we did it,” he revealed in the press conference for the film that afternoon.

Sandler is just one of numerous Hollywood greats who traveled to Berlin for the 74th edition of the renowned film festival. Director legend Martin Scorsese (81) received the Honorary Golden Bear for his life’s work the evening before. “Basic Instinct” star Sharon Stone (65) also didn’t miss the event. “Twilight” icon Kristen Stewart (33), Matt Damon (53) and Oscar nominee for “Oppenheimer” Cillian Murphy (47) also presented new works at the Berlinale in recent days.
