Half of Munich was still in ruins when the actress Rosl Mayr got a job as a prompter in the Kammerspiele. Since the actors hardly ever needed the help of the whisperer, Rosl Mayr began to knit in her stage chamber instead of leafing through the text book. But once someone actually forgot his text. Rosl, absorbed in knitting, did not notice the mishap. Only when the audience became restless did she startle. “Jeez, what’s going on, where is samma?” She is said to have stammered. Rosl Mayr’s prompter career came to an end afterwards. But she got another chance. Not only the director Fritz Kortner expressed the opinion: “It belongs on, not under the stage!”
