The 46-year-old traveled to Venice for the film festival. Against the backdrop of the strikes in Hollywood, she appeared “incredibly nervous.”

US actress Jessica Chastain wants to support the strikers’ goals with her presence at the Venice Film Festival. The 46-year-old said she was “incredibly nervous” about coming to Venice given the strikes. Some people on her team even advised her against it, she added. Until recently, it was not clear whether the Oscar winner would travel to Venice.

Unionized screenwriters and actors in the US have been on strike for several months in the fight for better pay and rules regarding the use of artificial intelligence. Many US stars didn’t come to the film festival because of this.

In Venice, Chastain can be seen in the competition film “Memory” by Michel Franco. Like other smaller productions, the film received an exemption from the US actors’ union to advertise despite strikes. The prerequisite is that the production company supports the strikers’ demands.

“I hope my presence today encourages other independent producers and actors to come forward and support our union members,” Chastain said.
