With “House of Cards” she became a series star, then her film career really took off. Kate Mara is celebrating her birthday today.
In February 2022, Kate Mara starred in the Berlinale film “Call Jane” alongside Elizabeth Banks and Sigourney Weaver. The drama, which dealt with illegal abortions in the USA in the 1960s, took part in the Golden Bear competition. Today the actress turns 39 years old.
A bold career start
Kate Mara was born in New York in 1983 and it quickly became clear which direction her professional career should take. From the age of nine she took part in musical and theater performances at her school and showed her talent. She attended some theater schools in her childhood. After the end of her school career, she applied to the “Tisch School of the Arts”, but ultimately refused to take part in the classes despite being accepted. She didn’t want to start her career theoretically, but practically. Today, in addition to her acting, she is a trained ballet and jazz dancer.
Breakthrough with “House of Cards”
She got her first role in front of the camera in “Law & Order” in 1997. She was initially seen in smaller productions until she got her first leading role in the horror film “Düstere Legenden 3” in 2005. Her career received another boost from the films “They Were Heroes” and “Shooter”. But she celebrated her breakthrough with her role in the US series “House of Cards” from 2013 – 2016, as journalist Zoe Barnes. She was even nominated for an Emmy for her commitment. From now on she could also be seen in bigger films like «Fantastic Four». In 2022 she had a role in the Berlinale drama “Call Jane”.
Prominent family
Kate Mara comes from a prominent family. Her sister Rooney (“Nightmare Alley”) is also an actress, her father Timothy Christopher Mara is CEO of the American football team New York Giants. Kate Mara wants to keep her private life secret as much as possible. It is known that she is married to the actor Jamie Bell. The couple has had a daughter together since 2019.
