Actress Angela Winkler turns 80 – the magic woman – culture

Once, in 2003, Angela Winkler ruined the premiere for director Peter Zadek at the Vienna Academy Theater. At least that’s how the famous theater man felt. But perhaps the person spoiled for success just blamed the lukewarm reviews for “The Night of the Iguana” by Tennessee Williams on the incident that occurred at the beginning of the second act: Winkler in the role of the shy, virginal Hannah, traveling through South America with her terminally ill grandfather travels, ends up in a hotel in the jungle that she can’t pay for. She says to the hotel owner, played by Eva Mattes: “I don’t have any money, but I have a brooch.” She wants to take the brooch off her costume, but it isn’t there. The new dresser had neglected to put the jewelry on. Instead of overplaying the situation, Winkler says in all sincerity: “Oh, I don’t have it. I have to get the brooch” – and walks off.
