French actor, nature filmmaker and producer Jacques Perrin has died at the age of 80. He died in Paris on Thursday, the AFP news agency reported, citing his family and son Mathieu Simonet. Perrin has been successful in front of and behind the camera for decades.

He starred in films like Fateful Friendship, The Warhorse, Doomed to the Scaffold, Spy in Black and Wolves Pact. With films such as “Microcosm – The People of Grass”, the bird film “Nomads of the Air – The Secret of Migratory Birds” or the documentary “Our Oceans” he also made a name for himself as a director and conservationist.

Jacques Perrin was already a producer in the 1960s

In 2004, Perrin acted and co-produced his nephew Christophe Barratier’s hit movie “The Children of Monsieur Mathieu”.

Perrin has already worked as a producer on classic political thrillers such as “Z” (1969) and “The Invisible Uprising” (1972) by Greek-French director Costa-Gavras.
