Former “Tatort” detective Peter Sodann is dead

He became known as an inspector in the “crime scene”. But Peter Sodann’s great love remained the theater stage. He worked as a director and artistic director. He also once ran for the office of Federal President.
The actor, director and theater director Peter Sodann is dead. He died on Friday at the age of 87 in Halle an der Saale, his family announced. Thenn became known nationwide primarily as the somewhat grumpy Chief Inspector Bruno Ehrlicher. From 1992 to 2007 Sodann investigated alongside Bernd Michael Lade in Dresden and Leipzig.
Sodann came from Meißen in Saxony, where he was born on June 1, 1936 as the son of a worker. After an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and a foray into law, he studied at the Leipzig Theater University. Sodann also ran a cabaret that was closed in 1961 because of a program that was found to be counter-revolutionary. He was then arrested for anti-state agitation. He spent nine months in prison in the GDR, and later the Stasi spied on him.
He also made a name for himself as a theater maker. As director, he created a unique cultural island with several venues in his hometown of Halle, including the New Theater (nt). In 1986 he received the National Prize in the GDR. In 2001 he was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. In 2005, the city on the Saale made him an honorary citizen.
In Staucha, Saxony, he headed the Peter Sodann Library. There he collected all the books that were published in the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR from May 8, 1945 to October 2, 1990. Sodann, who was born in Meißen in 1936, was also politically active. He ran for the office of Federal President for the Left in 2009.
