This Friday morning, around sixty Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists blocked the entrance to the TotalEnergies oil depot in Mardyck, near Dunkirk, in the North. Their action, dubbed “black out”, aims to disrupt the activity of the site and to denounce the energy crisis which highlights “our deadly dependence on fossil fuels. »
Equipped with white coveralls, masks for some and brandishing banners for others, the militants of Extinction Rebellion sat down, from 9 a.m., in front of the entrance to the oil depot “Etablissement de Flandres” of TotalEnergies. This “action of civil disobedience” targeting “fossil industries and their financiers”, castigates the “superprofits” of the energy giants while more and more French people find themselves victims of “fuel poverty”, denounces XR in a communicated.
A push before COP27
The activists’ operation also intends to put pressure on world leaders a few days before the opening of COP27 in Egypt. “It is our responsibility to put these climate criminals out of harm’s way, in particular by depriving them of financial support”, insists the organization, specifying that 5 of its activists had been arrested by the police deployed on the spot. .
