Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt star in The Lost City. Bullock plays an author who writes adventure novels – until suddenly the lines between fiction and reality become blurred.

No, it’s certainly not entirely unintentional that you have to think of the legendary Indiana Jones films with Harrison Ford when you look at the funny, lively trailer (in which Brad Pitt makes a wonderful surprise appearance).

The outfits, the setting (here a waterfall, there a lush green jungle), the many snakes; last but not least, of course, the film title of «The Lost City»: All this is reminiscent of one of the most successful action film series ever.

Just take a look at one of the film posters for the first film in the Indiana Jones series (original title: “Raiders of the Lost Ark”), which is now more than forty years old (in German cinemas from October 1981). No Harrison Ford this time, but two other stars of US cinema are at the forefront of adventure: Sandra Bullock (“Ocean’s 8”) and Channing Tatum (“Magic Mike”).

Bullock plays a reclusive if fairly successful author, Loretta Sage, who likes to spend her days sipping iced white wine in a hot tub. The hero of her stories is the attractive model Alan (Tatum) – who has also devoted his life to impersonating the main character Dash in real life. While Loretta is away promoting her new book with Alan, she is kidnapped by a crooked billionaire (played by Daniel Radcliffe) who is hoping she can lead him to the “lost” city treasure from her last book.

Alan comes to her aid as he wants to prove that he can be a hero in real life too. The boundaries between fiction and reality are becoming increasingly blurred. In any case, the rather unequal couple soon find themselves in a jungle that seems pretty real, in which one or the other challenge awaits them.

The almost two-hour spectacle was staged by the brothers Aaron Nee and Adam Nee (“Band of Robbers”). The insane story was penned by Seth Gordon (“Kill the Boss”). By the way, the launch of a fifth “Indiana Jones” film is planned for summer 2023. With: Harrison Ford, of course.
