The Ministry of Finance is launching an official investigation against a civil servant who is said to have given tax-saving tips to wealthy people. But the case is not as simple as it initially seemed.
The official review of the case is underway. Depending on the outcome of the proceedings, Gerda Hofmann is threatened with a reprimand, a fine, a reduction in her salary or another official sanction. However, that is all that is clear, more than a week after the documentary aired Billionaire Game: The Secret World of the Super Rich on ZDF. The film gave the impression that the head of the department from the Federal Ministry of Finance had given tax-saving tips for the super-rich at a law firm conference. However, it is still completely unclear whether that was actually the case and whether Hofmann even revealed official secrets at the event held by the law firm that specializes in aggressive tax planning.
