According to Ukraine, packages with animal eyes were sent to diplomatic missions in several European countries. Letter bombs had only been sent to the Ukrainian and US embassies in the past few days.
According to the Foreign Ministry in Kyiv, several Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad have received “bloody packages” containing animal eyes. The packages were sent to embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Italy and three consulates in Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko wrote on Facebook.
There are also said to have been incidents in front of the seat of the Ukrainian ambassador to the Vatican and the embassies in Kazakhstan and the USA. Parcels and letters were received synchronously from “a European country”.
Kuleba suspects attempts at intimidation
“Since they are unable to stop Ukraine on the diplomatic front, they are trying to intimidate us,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba commented on the incidents with a view to Russia’s war of aggression against his country.
Security precautions have been increased at all Ukrainian diplomatic missions. However, Kuleba assured that the Ukrainian diplomats would continue to work unperturbed.
Spain: connection with war not excluded
In the past few days, letter bombs had been sent to the Ukrainian and US embassies in Spain, among others. Leading politicians are also said to have received letter bombs. A security officer from the Ukrainian mission was slightly injured when the explosive device detonated. There was initially no information about the sender. No one claimed responsibility for the crimes. According to Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, however, he does not rule out that these incidents are connected to the war in Ukraine.
