Diplomatic efforts in the Middle East are in full swing. This is also why, according to a report, a suspected Israeli attack against Iran was smaller than planned.

Israel apparently originally planned a more comprehensive attack against Iran. This is reported by the New York Times, citing three high-ranking Israeli government officials.

Accordingly, several military targets in Iran should be bombed, including near the capital Tehran. After appeals from the USA, Germany and Great Britain, Israel ultimately decided on a limited strike.

Presumptive Retaliation

According to consistent media reports, Israel carried out an attack against Iran last Friday. According to the New York Times, an air force base in Isfahan province, not far from Iranian nuclear facilities, was hit by a missile.

According to the report, the military strike was intended to show that Israel was capable of attacking Iran without invading its airspace. The province of Isfahan was also deliberately chosen. There are important facilities for the Iranian defense industry as well as the Natanz nuclear facility, where Iran enriches uranium up to 60 percent.

Previously Iran attacked Israel

Israel’s military strike followed an attack by Iran on Israel with more than 300 drones and missiles on April 13. This followed the deaths of two Iranian generals in an attack on an embassy building in the Syrian capital Damascus. This attack was attributed to Israel.

Iran does not want to pursue the attack any further

Israel has not officially commented on the alleged counterattack – Iran has played it down and has now announced that it will no longer pursue it. “The incident was a diversionary tactic and not worth mentioning,” said Foreign Office spokesman Nasser Kanaani. The spokesman said the action was so insignificant that the Israelis themselves did not want to take responsibility for it, according to the Irna news agency.

Kanaani stressed that Iran does not want an escalation of tensions in the region. At the same time, however, the country will once again consistently respond to any aggression from Israel.
