According to experts, the last generation benefits the climate movement as a whole

Society is deeply divided over how many climate protection measures we can expect individuals to take. Some fear a further radicalization of the protest. Sociologist Stefan Aykut sees the real danger elsewhere.

The argument about the right way to go about climate protection is being fought more fiercely in Germany than ever before. In Berlin, activists from the Last Generation group have announced further road blockades because the current climate protection measures are too timid. The widespread ban on the installation of new gas and oil heating systems from 2024 is also causing protests – from people for whom the country’s climate-friendly conversion is going too quickly. Finding a middle ground seems difficult.
