When one crashes According to police, at least five people were killed in a small plane crash in the US state of Tennessee. The single-engine plane crashed near a highway in western Nashville, police said Monday evening on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

Shortly before the accident, the crew reported an engine failure and asked for permission to make an emergency landing, US media reported, citing police and fire departments. The machine then crashed into a grass verge and burst into flames. It was initially not known exactly how many people were on board. However, there are no survivors. “We are lucky that the plane did not hit any buildings when it crashed,” CNN quoted a police spokesman as saying.

The plane took off from Mount Sterling, Kentucky, about 200 miles away, and was scheduled to land in Nashville, a spokeswoman for the airport in Nashville told The Tennessean newspaper. Further details about the cause of the accident were initially not known. The aviation authority FAA and the accident investigation agency NTSB have started investigations, it said.
