A seven-year-old boy fell off a concrete platform while playing. Doctors and paramedics could no longer help him.

A seven-year-old boy died while playing on a heavy memorial cross in Büren (North Rhine-Westphalia).

The child had stayed with a six-year-old friend at the almost one meter high sandstone cross, which was erected on a hillside and fell from the concrete platform for an unexplained cause, as the police announced on Friday. The cross fell on the boy who suffered severe injuries. His friend immediately reported to his parents, who rushed to help and alerted the ambulance service.

Two emergency doctors and several paramedics tried unsuccessfully to reanimate the child. The boy died at the scene of the accident. Radio Hochstift first reported about the accident on Thursday. The police had secured traces in the evening and secured the cross.
