Many should have been afraid, now the relatives have to endure terrible news: After the serious car accident in Hanover, another person died – so there are now five fatalities.

After the serious car accident in Hanover on Monday evening, a 17-year-old died – and thus the fifth person involved in the accident. The teenager died in hospital from his injuries on Thursday morning, police said.

In the head-on collision of two cars, three young people died at the scene of the accident, and a fourth died in the hospital on Tuesday evening. In both cars sat three people from Hanover and Garbsen. Only the 21-year-old driver of one of the cars is alive – he is seriously but not critically injured.

A police spokeswoman said it had not yet been possible to speak to the young man. But this is planned as soon as his condition allows it. There was initially no new information about the cause of the collision. A police spokesman had previously announced that the fatalities should be autopsied.

According to the previous investigations, the two cars collided head-on on Monday evening in the Marienwerder district. Police believe one of the cars left the lane and went into the oncoming lane. Then there was a head-on collision. Three people died at the scene of the accident – including the 19-year-old driver of one of the cars and his passenger of the same age. The 17-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and died in hospital.

Of the occupants of the second car driven by the 21-year-old, the passenger of the same age also died at the scene of the accident. A 20-year-old who was in the car was initially in mortal danger and died on Tuesday evening.
