In China, serious accidents occur again and again in the country’s mines. Now there have even been two fatal incidents in one day.

In the event of two mining accidents within one day, China killed at least twelve miners. Four other workers were still missing, state news agency Xinhua reported.

The first of the two accidents occurred on Monday around 12 p.m. in a coal mine in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui. A gas explosion there killed seven people, Xinhua reported. The explosion occurred in a coal mine when 24 miners were working in the shaft. Two miners were still missing.

The second accident occurred late Monday evening in northern China’s Shanxi province, where five miners were killed when a warehouse in a coal shaft collapsed, according to the state agency. Two workers were still missing there too.

In China there are always serious accidents in mines with many fatalities. This is often due to poor security measures.
