An 80-year-old student could not open the emergency parachute. But luck in misfortune: The man survived with several broken bones. All known details.

During paragliding training in the Allgäu, an 80-year-old student pilot fell and was seriously injured. According to the police, the accident happened yesterday in Bolsterlang (Oberallgäu).

During the flight exercise, the 80-year-old lost control of his paraglider at an altitude of 250 meters. The man did not deploy the emergency parachute, although the flight instructor gave him instructions to do so several times over the radio. The reason for this is unclear. Whether the 80-year-old was able to react at all is the subject of the investigation.

As the police announced, the fall was slowed down by a tree, so that the man survived the accident with several broken bones. The 80-year-old student pilot was taken to the hospital by rescue helicopter with serious injuries.
