The campaign, which was probably intended as a romantic idea by a man from Vogtland, went terribly wrong. Not even a towing company called in could help.

A driver from Saxony parked his car next to the Graal-Müritz pier (Rostock district) in the Baltic Sea sand. The 34-year-old drove to the beach with his companion late Thursday evening – and got stuck. A spokesman for the Rostock police reported on Friday that his attempts to free the SUV with all-wheel drive had failed.

A towing company that was summoned also waved it off after a “brief assessment of the situation” and decided not to even try. The tow truck didn’t stand a chance either.

Presumably marriage proposal planned on the Baltic Sea beach

The car remained on the beach overnight and was finally pulled out of the sand by a tractor on Friday morning. The police observed the rescue operation via a webcam on the pier. The police spokesman could not say what made the man from Vogtland and his passenger illegally drive to the beach. According to the “Bild” newspaper, the 34-year-old wanted to make a romantic marriage proposal to the woman.

The action will definitely have an aftermath. Because driving on the beach is generally not allowed, the police made a report of an administrative offence. The 34-year-old will therefore soon receive mail from the Graal-Müritz community, said the police spokesman.
