Because he lost consciousness at the wheel, an 85-year-old left the A8 with his car on Thursday morning. According to the police, the man from the Munich district was heading towards Salzburg at around 7.20 a.m. and was just overtaking a trailer truck when he lost control of his car just before the Hofolding rest area. This brushed against the tractor unit of the truck, spun and then shot almost 200 meters across the grass verge and through a wildlife fence until it came to a stop against a tree. The 85-year-old and his 79-year-old wife in the passenger seat escaped with minor injuries, but were taken to hospitals for further examinations. The police assume that an acute illness was the cause of the accident. The accident car had to be recovered with the help of a crane. The property damage is estimated at more than 20,000 euros.
